Ok this it you’ll only have one wedding day. Well at least if this isn’t your first march up the aisle it should hopefully be the last, so make it a day to remember for you and your guests.
After getting the minor issue of actually marrying your partner over with it’ll be time to share the love and celebrate with family and friends.
Actually as beautiful as the ceremony may be beyond a few select guests the majority of them will be there for three specific reasons dancing, drinking and cake. If you have a lot single friends pulling will also be high on the agenda. Therefore a fantastically designed party with plenty of fun activities for guests to enjoy is a must.
Here at Theme-Works we have found that certain themes seem to be extremely popular amongst our clients. Listed below are some of my personal favourites from our most sought after weddings.
Winter Wonderland
Living in Britain the one thing that cannot be relied on is the weather – my own parents managed to get married on the only day it rained in their home town in May 1984.
A winter wedding will inevitably be cold and grey, if the sun shines it’s a bonus and if it actually snows the likelihood is that someone will fall and break a leg.
Hedge your bets and create a winter wonderland in the safe environs of your venue. This elegant and romantic setting will take your guests’ breath away without causing them unnecessary injuries.
Guests can bask in the elegance of the location which will be draped in sparkling ice white motifs while personalised ice sculptures and floating snowflakes wafting through the drinks reception will add a touch of frivolous magic to your special day.
Later you and your beloved can take your first dance on the chequered black and white dance floor before inviting your guests to boogie the night away.
Vintage
I have the hips of a pregnant elephant so if I ever got taken off the shelf, I would definitely dust myself off and squeeze my chocolate lined belly into a fifties style dress before insisting that my guests do the same.
This is a theme that everyone can take part in, dressing in vintage style outfits and drinking champagne from tea cups beneath parasols.
Guests can also add the finishing touches to their ensembles at the dressing up area.
After eating from pretty mismatched china plates and sampling cake for ornate cake stands guests can hit the black and white chequered and swing the night away to a rat pack tribute band.
And just in case you do have some single lady friends on the prowl, why not set their hearts racing by putting the groomsmen in vintage style military uniforms or maybe that’s just my idea of a good party.
Beyond Wonderland
When I was a kid my parents threw me an Alice in Wonderland themed party complete with a Mad -Hatter (dad) and Queen of Hearts (mum) decorated with a rather ominous looking dark forest made from old Pampers nappy boxes and a cotton wool white rabbit.
At Theme-Works we have made a few adjustments to this almost flawless idea.
You and your guests walk along the red carpet into the Queen’s rose garden decorated with red roses, topiary and playing cards nestled amongst white pillars with garlands of flowers wound around them. The floor will be lined with bright green grass which rolls beneath oversized flowers and toadstool motifs.
The reception area completes the picture with a mad-hatters tea party set up, games and a colourful selection of cup cakes.
Flamingos lurk on the black and white chequered dance floor where guests can continue the fantasy with a dance.
Black and White
You may be lucky enough to have a well groomed elegant family who will set photographs alight and have all your friends in awe at every occasion but you can be guaranteed that one of them is sure to let you down at the last minute and turn up at your big day in a lime green cat suit with magenta feathers in their hair (my uncle Richard always turns up in something like that).
Holding a black and white ball as your wedding reception is not only a great way to keep disastrous fashions from ruining your wedding album it also adds elegance to the whole event.
Guests can wear outfits in the one or both of the ball’s signature colours and will be welcomed into a chrome world akin to walking through an old Hollywood movie.
Black and white pillars support the space which is centred by a spiral chandelier that hangs over the chequered black and white dance floor where guests can have a twirl after sampling dessert from the milk chocolate and white chocolate fountains.
Tropical Beach
Wouldn’t you love to pack the whole wedding party off on honeymoon with you? Probably not, you can be sure however that your guests would love to hit the beach with you and given half a chance they’d probably squeeze into your suit case.
Theme-works can design a party to help you avoid awkward questions from airport security and satisfy your guests’ longing for sun and sand.
A tropical beach themed wedding will add a cheerful laid back tint to your day.
Your guests will love being offered tropical cocktails from a tiki hut while listening to a steel band playing.
The venue will be decorated with palm trees, hammocks and exotic flowers and birds. Guests can get into the holiday spirit by selecting tropical costumes like grass skirts and coco nut shells from the dressing up box before having a hula dance. And you can sneak off on your honeymoon with no extra luggage.
