We like to think our party theming creates a memorable night for all our guests, but it’s nothing compared to some of these record breaking, history making feats...
The Most Expensive Birthday Party
Do you have a spare $27.2 million? That’s the amount you’ll need to even match the current record for the world’s most expensive birthday party. The Sultan of Brunei was the lucky birthday boy- he paid Michael Jackson $16 million to perform at the bash and spent much of the leftover money on caviar, champagne and food for guests. Why not embrace his lavishness with a gold themed party? Gold themed party props will suggest luxury, even if you don’t have a spare few million pounds yourself!
The Largest Tea Party
The Mad Hatter would have been proud of the folks of Indore, India when they hosted the World Record Attempt for the Largest Tea Party. 32,681 people gathered at the Nehru stadium and all drank tea from specially designed cups on the 24th of February, 2008. How about creating your own tea drinking challenges at an Alice in Wonderland themed party or an English Summer themed event? There’s nothing us Brits love more than a good cup of cha so getting guests involved shouldn’t be too taxing!
The Largest Karaoke Party
You’d be forgiven for thinking this record might belong to Japan, the home nation of karaoke. However, it was actually in Finland on August 15th, 2008 when the world record was achieved. 80,000 Finns gathered to sing ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’, led by the song’s creators- those scary, Eurovision rockers, Lordi. You can embrace the spirit of karaoke at a Japanese themed party or give a nod to the zombie-lookalike rock band that inspired the record attempt with a Halloween party.
The Largest Gathering of Santa Claus’
While this one is a Christmassy record, it was actually achieved in September. Maybe all the Santas’ schedules were fully booked for December with special appearances and deliveries? On September 9th, 2007, 12,965 Father Christmases descended upon Guildhall Square in Derry City, Northern Ireland and raised over £100,000 for local charities. If this doesn’t inspire you to go all out with your festive Christmas party theming then we don’t know what will!
The Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Gorillas
The final record we’ve been inspired by is monkey-themed. On September 25, 2005, 637 people dressed as Gorillas and ran 7km and raised a whole load of money for The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, which aims to save the endangered species. Why not challenge the record at a jungle themed party? You could even extend your attempt to the whole monkey family- chimpanzees, marmosets, orang-utans and gorillas!
