We love to go all out with our party themes here at Theme-Works, though after checking out some of the most popular themed restaurants in the theming world capital, Japan, we feel like we’ve got some catching up to do! If you want a crazy themed party your guests will never forget, take some inspiration from these wacky eateries.

The Alice in Wonderland Restaurant

If you want to treat your guests to dinner served by ‘Alice’ waitresses dolled up in blue and white pinafore dresses, take inspiration from this diner! It’s the ultimate Wonderland themed eating experience with mismatched and ornamental chairs- some even have bunny tails on them, a giant clock face taking up an entire wall and playing card drinks coasters. The food is even themed- playing-card soldier pizzas, green caterpillar sushi rolls and mock turtle mimosa salad are some of the menu’s highlights- and you can hire out private rooms to dine in, including a ‘Glass World’ room and a ‘Fantasy Forest’.

The Wizard of the Opera Restaurant

For ‘gorgeous and gothic dining’ pay homage to this Tokyo restaurant which features a Phantom of the Opera theme. Think lots of red velvet, marble and luxurious gold furnishings. As always, the food is themed with sauces decoratively applied to plates in the shape of musical notes and an amazing smoked salmon dish that is shaped like a 3D rose. Of course, the soundtrack to your opera dining experience will be tracks from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical- on repeat and you’ll be served by staff dressed as the phantom, Erik, and his crush, Christine.

The Princess Heart Restaurant

Fulfil all your childhood fantasies with the ultimate fairytale theming. At the Princess Heart restaurant in Tokyo they’ve really embraced their princess theme- guests are seated in luxurious thrones and heart-shaped chairs, much of the menu features various Disney princess characters, the waitresses dress as pink maids and there’s even a full length mirror, of which you can ask, ‘who’s the fairest of them all?’ The creators have also used themed touches such as chocolate fountains, fairy lights and chandeliers to create the ultimate princess wonderland.

The Vampire Cafe

Of course, this Gothic restaurant is decked out almost entirely in blood red- there are even red blood cells printed on the floor, lit up by under-floor lighting! The owners have used thick velvet draping in red and black to push the Gothicism and skulls, candles, crosses and candelabras further add to the effect. Vampire themed drinks choices include Bloody Marys, Blood Orange juice and the ghastly sounding Blood Clot. We presume garlic is strictly off the menu!

The Best of the Rest

Unsurprisingly, many other Far Eastern countries have jumped on the themed restaurant bandwagon. Here’s our guide to the best of the rest...

If you fancy an aeroplane-style party with your feet still on terra firma, take a look at the plane-themed A380 In-Flight Kitchen. It’s decked out with aeroplane-style windows, real-life baggage compartments and airline-blue seats and waitresses serve food while dressed in typical air hostess uniforms. There’s also the strangely named D.S. Music Restaurant for fans of hospital dining. Replicate their crazy theming efforts with by providing guests with wheelchairs to move around in and IV drips and blunt syringes to drink from!

If you feel like hosting a toilet-themed party take a look at the Modern Toilet restaurant in Taiwan. They provide commodes for guests to sit on and hand out toilet roll to be used as napkins. Copy the Modern Toilet creators by using ‘WC’ signs as decorations too!

Finally, In China you can dine in the darkness at the Pitch-Black restaurant. Try your hand at hosting a blackout party and ban guests from using phones or light-up watches then challenge them to eat in the dark. At the restaurant waiters wear night vision goggles to ensure that food doesn't end up on the floor- a privilege you could surely afford yourself as party host!
