Not only do celebrities love a themed party- see our article on some of the most fun themes they’ve attempted if you want some inspiration- but they also love a themed wedding.

Who can forget the photos that emerged post the Posh and Becks wedding? Britain’s favourite celeb couple went all out with a royal theme during their special day in Ireland in August 2001, sitting on the now infamous gold thrones throughout the ceremony and releasing a single, white dove after exchanging vows. For the reception the pair kept up the luxurious feel- all guests were asked to dress in either black or white, giant pillows the size of a king sized bed were scattered and guests enjoyed rosé champagne before a lavish fireworks display ended the night. Let’s face it, if you can’t act like royalty on your wedding day then when can you?

Again in Ireland, Pierce Brosnan and his beau, journalist Keely Shaye Smith, married in August 2001. The pair paid homage to Pierce’s birthplace with an Irish theme on the day- there was Irish food, Irish music and even a performance by Irish dancers. Honouring your or your partner’s heritage can make for a lovely wedding theme, as the couple demonstrated.

Don’t let the somewhat public demise of our next theme-loving couple put you off their chosen wedding theme! Sir Paul McCartney and now ex-wife Heather Mills picked an Indian theme for their wedding reception at their June wedding in 2002, following Sir Paul’s proposal in India. The reception was complete with dancers in authentic traditional Indian dress and a curry banquet- vegetarian of course.

If you’re considering a seasonal wedding, you might like to take inspiration from Christina Aguilera. The pop diva married her now-husband, Jordan Bratman, in November 2005 and the couple chose a winter theme. According to InStyle Weddings magazine, ‘Hundreds of birch trees lined the walls; the tables, dressed with silk cloth and white organdy overlays, were trimmed with white faux fur.’ Chandeliers covered in crystal strands and flowers, dipped in silver glitter and strewn across the tables, further added to the Winter Wonderland theme. Stunning!

American music stars Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz decided to be a bit cheeky with their theming, choosing Alice in Wonderland as the focus for their May 2008 wedding. 10,000 black roses decorated Ashlee’s family home, where the wedding took place, and it’s reported that the cake was topped with a top hat, a tea pot, a stop watch and a pot of flowers. Guests even left the reception at the end of the night with wedding favours labelled ‘Eat Me’ as per the children’s story.

Finally, we take a look at a wedding that hasn’t yet taken place but has triggered a lot of speculation. In May this year, Now magazine reported that Kate Moss and Jamie Hince were rumoured to be planning a Gothic themed wedding for September this year. While the wedding didn’t happen as predicted, the Daily Star claimed sketches of Kate’s wedding dress portrayed a purple and black, full-skirted gown trimmed with vintage rock and roll charms. There were also rumours that artists Dinos and Jake Chapman, whose past creations have been themed around sex, death and disfigurement were to be commissioned to create tablecentres. It’s certainly an unusual wedding theme, but one that’s sure to be remembered!
